How to Locate Taiwan Trade Data?

Both the United States and Taiwan maintain detailed trade data, showing our substantive economic ties. Taiwan is a top trading partner for the U.S., while the U.S. ranks among Taiwan’s top three trading partners.

In the United States, the U.S. Census Bureau maintains updated statistics on U.S. trade in goods by country. Their trade data covers both imports from and exports to Taiwan, and their data is available both online and for download in a spreadsheet (https://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c5830.html). In addition, the U.S. International Trade Commission maintains the USITC DataWeb (https://dataweb.usitc.gov), providing detailed U.S. merchandise trade and tariff data. Trade data for 1989 to the present are available on a monthly, quarterly, annual, or year-to-date basis, and can be accessed using a powerful search function.

In Taiwan, English language trade statistics are provided by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), an agency under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). The BOFT trade statistics (https://cus93.trade.gov.tw/FSCE000F/FSCE000F) cover goods exported to and imported from foreign countries, with re-exports and re-imports excluded. Original Taiwan trade statistics covering re-exports and re-imports are maintained by the Directorate General of Customs, Ministry of Finance (https://portal.sw.nat.gov.tw/APGA/GA35E).
