Donations for Taiwan Earthquake Disaster Relief
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, a 7.4-magnitude* earthquake struck Taiwan’s northeast Hualien County. This is Taiwan’s biggest earthquake in 25 years. The aftermath is still unfolding, but at least 10 people were killed, with thousands injured, missing, or stranded. The island saw some structural damage, but modern seismic building codes and a robust early-warning system enacted since the devastating 1999 quake helped mitigate that damage.
The Taiwan Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Hualien County government have designated accounts for private donations to help with disaster relief. Anyone who would like to donate can do so using the information published by the Taiwan government (in Chinese). (See also this information at the Central News Agency in English.)
Overseas donations to the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief between April 4, 2024, and May 3, 2024, will be earmarked for Hualien earthquake disaster relief.
