“Economic Cooperation & Competition: U.S., China & Taiwan Perspectives” Event

The US-Taiwan Business Council – in partnership with the Intellisia Institute – hosts Economic Cooperation & Competition: U.S., China & Taiwan Perspectives, in Washington, D.C. This event is composed of private discussions in the morning, as well as during an afternoon public session as a speaker, discussing the intersection of China’s One Belt/One Road initiative & Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy.

Morning topics include discussions on the future of economic integration in the triangular relationship, Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, the domestic priorities of both China and Taiwan when it comes to cross-Strait relations, and the role that Hong Kong plays in the relationship.

There will be two afternoon topics. One topic focuses on the increased focus of both China and Taiwan on economic, trade, and political relationships with its regional neighbors – the One Belt/One Road initiative and the New Southbound Policy, respectively – and the potential impact that each policy initiative might have on the other, as well as on their relationship with the United States. The second topic analyzes the increasingly integrated supply chain, for example in technology products, which ties the U.S., China, and Taiwan together in an ever-expanding web of business and trade relations. This discussion will examine ways that U.S. policies on domestic job creation and Made in America products might impact this traditional supply chain cooperation.
